Wadsworth is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the more prestigious communities north of the North Shore. Known as “The Village of Country Living,” this small, quiet town has barely changed since 1847 when trains rolled into the depot dropping off supplies to local farmers and picking up milk to carry back to Chicago. Even the town's original one-room schoolhouse survives, now serving as the village hall. Farms still exist in this community of 2500 people, but the village is fast becoming a favorite escape for professionals seeking refuge from the more crowded communities to the south.

Rolling, open terrain surrounded by thick forests characterize the landscape of Wadsworth. Wetlands and nature preserves are found in the outlying areas.

Wadsworth is horse country. Many homeowners keep horses on their land, but new residents should check zoning regulations before rushing out and buying the pony of their dreams. Some residents board horses at one of the many stables in the area. These stables also provide horses for trail rides through nature areas, and some offer riding lessons as well.

The Wadsworth Wetlands Demonstration Project is the perfect retreat from the concrete and glass jungle of the city. A canoe launch allows access to the Des Plaines River and established trails make hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing a joy.

The Wadsworth Community Park, maintained by the village, has a jogging path, tennis court, basketball court, softball field and an outdoor skating rink. The Gurnee Park District welcomes residents of Wadsworth to use their facilities and to participate in their programs.

Golfers enjoy Midlane Country Club, which offers a 27-hole course, a lighted, grass driving range, two clubhouses, an outdoor pool, tennis courts, a restaurant and a night club. The club is open to the public on a pay-as-you-play basis.

Shopping
Within the village shopping is limited. However, Gurnee Outlet Mall, just minutes away, easily meets a shopper's needs. Other outlet malls are just across the border in Wisconsin, are easily accessible.

Schools
Wadsworth's elementary and high school students attend school in neighboring Gurnee. Younger children attend either Gurnee Grade School in district 56 or Milburn Grade School in district 24. Teenagers attend Warren Township High School in district 121.

Transportation
U.S. 41 runs through town. Drive time to the Loop is an hour. O'Hare and Midway airports are 45 and 80 minutes away, respectively. Mitchell Field in Milwaukee is a half hour drive. Commuters may board a Metra train in Waukegan for a 60-minute trip to the Loop.
