Incorporated in 1956, Schaumburg began as a small plot of land measuring only 2 square miles. Today, this community has expanded from a population of 130 to over 74,000 residents. Schaumburg supplies jobs to nearly 45,000 people in local industrial and corporate complexes. Because such a large revenue base is achieved from extensive business and commercial development, no municipal property taxes are levied.

Housing
The majority of homes were built after 1970. Ranches, split-levels, and multifamily housing are popular. Townhouses and condominiums are available as well. Apartment rentals are abundant.

Transportation
Both Interstate I-90 and I-290 are convenient with full interchanges in the village. The Milwaukee District and the Chicago Northwestern commuter rail train lines have regularly scheduled stops in downtown Schaumburg. Schaumburg Airport and Schaumburg Public Heliport are available for small and chartered flights.

Schools
District 54 in Schaumburg is the largest elementary school district in Illinois serving nearly 16,000 students in 27 different locations. Student achievement scores are traditionally above average. High School students attend schools in District 211, where over 83% of the teachers hold master’s degrees. The curriculum meets the needs of all student achievement levels through over 235 diverse available courses. Two parochial schools are also located within the community.

Shopping
Woodfield Mall in downtown Schaumburg is among the top three indoor
shopping malls in the country, featuring an astounding 255 stores. Many other shopping areas are found throughout town.

Recreation
The Schaumburg Park District is one of the largest in suburban Illinois. The Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, is a theatrical group offering performances year round.

Hospitals
Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates Medical Center, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in nearby Elgin are full-care medical facilities offering aid to surrounding communities. A 24-hour Emergency Care facility is also available through Northwest Community Hospital in nearby Arlington Heights. Two senior care facilities are found close by.

Many denominations are found throughout Schaumburg, among them are: Baptist, Church of Christ, Jewish, Lutheran and Presbyterian denominations are found locally. Many others are found in nearby communities.
