Originally a popular vacation spot, Fox River Grove is now home to 3,500 year-round residents. This small community thrives on its rural atmosphere. Industrial and commercial developments are kept to a minimum.

One of Fox River Grove's distinctive landmarks is the Bettendorf Castle, which was built single-handedly by resident Ted Bettendorf who started his project in the 1930's. The Fox River Grove Public Library has seen progress as of late. It now houses more than 18,500 books, as well as magazines, records, films and framed art reproductions.

Transportation
U.S. Highway 14 runs right through town. The Northwest Tollway (I-90) has an interchange 13 miles southwest of town. Metra trains commute to the Chicago Loop in about an hour and a quarter.

Schools
Elementary students attend schools in District 3, which provides computer education and handicapped programs for ages 3 to 21, as well as a full time reading specialist. High school students attend Cary-Grove Community High School in District 155.

Shopping
Fox River Grove has a variety of antique stores. The Spring Hill Mall in neighboring West Dundee houses 140 stores with department store anchors such as Marshall Field’s, Sears and Carson Pirie Scott.

Recreation
The Park District organizes year-round activities. Water sports are the pastime of choice all summer long on the beautiful Fox River. Lake Julian Trout Farm is popular among fisherman. The Windy City Balloon Port manages hot-air balloon rides over the Fox River Valley.
